Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Christmas is one of the busiest times of year for travel and this year people are still having to make last minute journeys to beat new restrictions.

Yes, it’s that time of year again. Christmas is upon us, and it won’t be long until we wave goodbye to 2021 and say hello to 2022. However, whilst the usual cliché is that the year has whipped by and we can’t believe it’s already the end of December, it doesn’t feel like that to me. Despite all the setbacks (both obvious and not) I’ve made real progress in 2021 and where I end it professionally is much further on than where I started. I’ve taken on a lot more, seen my photos on numerous magazine front covers and really grown in confidence to go out there and hunt for work. As I write this, I am in the process of finding lots of new cars to feature in the new year across an ever-widening range of magazines. It looks like I’ll be spending plenty more time on the road (and if you own something interesting then please do get in touch).

Taken with my new 50mm PS lens on my Bronica SQ-A. This is actually a wide angle lens which is equivalent to 28mm for a 35mm camera. More on this lens in the new year.

It’s not just my professional work that I feel has moved on but some of my more personal projects as well. This year I picked up a couple more lenses for my Bronica SQ-A, and whereas I was quite disappointed at a lot of the early photos I took with this camera, I really like some of the stuff I’ve shot recently. I’ve made more of an effort to get stuck into monochrome photography, an area I’ve always been unsure on, and having seen my latest images arrive back from the developers I am starting to get the hang of it. Unfortunately, my 110mm PS lens broke recently so I had to take it and the camera to a repair shop in London, the latter also in desperate need for a service. As you can imagine with equipment like this the repair bill wasn’t exactly cheap but for me it’s worth it with how much I love shooting with it. It’s a great juxtaposition against the time pressured digital work I do. I’ve also picked up a 50mm PS lens which you can see a photo taken with above. Look out for my review of this in the new year.

I’d hoped that in 2021 we could have also waved goodbye to the plague as well but sadly that is still with us, and this winter looks little better than the last. Still, I remain optimistic for the 2022, after all I didn’t think I’d being doing my trip to the Alps when writing my last Christmas blog in 2020. No matter how difficult things become there’s always new opportunities. You just have to look for them. Stay safe everyone, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.
