The Japan Society
Founded in 1891 to further better relations and understanding between the UK and Japan. They organise numerous events throughout the year to make Japanese culture accessible to the public at large. I’ve had the privilege to work alongside them to showcase some of the amazing work they do.
We are incredibly fortunate to be working with Greg. The quality of his photos speak for themselves and are so valuable for us in promoting our work and reaching a wider audience. Moreover, Greg is very professional, accommodating, and just a pleasure to work with. I would recommend him without hesitation to anyone looking for a professional photographer - Dr Michael Rivera King - Chief Executive, The Japan Society
State Visit of HM The Emperor of Japan
In June 2024 HM the Emperor of Japan made his first State Visit to the UK where he was received by King Charles III. Japan Matsuri
The largest annual Japanese event in the UK with more than 40,000 people in attendance at Trafalgar Square. It finally returned in 2023 after a four year absence. There’s no better showcase of Japanese culture with everything from traditional dance to little-known martial arts.
Japanese Garden Community Day
A smaller scale, more intimate event reaching out to families and locals at the Japanese garden in Hammersmith Park. Try your hand at calligraphy or perhaps purchase traditional Japanese snacks.
Annual Dinner
The biggest event of the year for the Japan Society. More than one hundred and fifty people involved in Japanese business and culture come together for a formal three-course meal, with the Japanese ambassador and a special guest speaker in attendance. In January 2024 the guest speaker was Togo Igawa, the first Japanese actor to join the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Lecture by Julia Longbottom CMG, British Ambassador to Japan 2024
Every year the Japan Society has the great opportunity to hear from the British Ambassador in Tokyo to give an update on British-Japanese relations. In 2024 this event was once again hosted by leading corporate partner Nomura.
Women in Work Panel Discussion
There is a perception that Japan lags behind when it comes to women in work. Is this true and why might that be? These were the questions being discussed by a panel consisting of: Emiko Terazono (Financial Times Editor on the companies news desk), Kayo Ito (Senior Vice President, Japanese Multinationals at NTT Data), Daisuke Tsuchiya (30% Club - Japan Chapter Advisory Board Member) and Helen Mcnaughtan (Senior Lecturer in International Business and Management at SOAS University of London).
Hosted by the Japan Society’s leading corporate partner, Nomura.
Annual Golf Tournament
A highlight of the yearly event program for keen golfers. Attendees gather for a more fun and informal outing for a bit of friendly competition, prizes and a two course lunch.
Annual Christmas Party
Hosted at the Embassy of Japan, I had the rare opportunity of photographing inside the embassy itself. With an opening speech by the ambassador, it gives an opportunity to celebrate the successes of the year, as well as time to catch up with friends and colleagues.
